Rehabilitation after blepharoplasty of the eyelids: consequences and methods of their elimination

The consequences of unsuccessful rehabilitation after blepharoplasty Any woman wants to save her youth for as long as possible. One of the first places where aging makes itself felt at the age of about 30 years, is the eye area. Overhanging of the skin over the eyelids, the appearance of skin bags, the first wrinkles - this is what distinguishes a mature woman from a young girl.

Most of the characteristic signs of aging in the periorbital zone (the area around the eyes) allows blefaroplasty. Despite the relative ease and painlessness of this surgical procedure, it, like any other, is accompanied by a rehabilitation period and sometimes some complications .

Since blepharoplasty is a low-impact surgery, complications after it are extremely rare. The whole period of rehabilitation takes an average of 15 days. Patients, who exactly follow all the instructions of the surgeon, often reduce this time to 10 days.

However, some factors can prolong rehabilitation after blepharoplasty of the eyelids. Among them are the following:

  1. Passion for patient tobacco.
  2. Age from 45 years.
  3. Genetically caused thickness.
  4. Individual features of the skin in the periorbital region, increasing the period of full recovery.

After the termination of transconjunctival or upper blepharoplasty, the patient can immediately go home - there is no reason to stay in hospital. In this case, it is desirable that a person be taken away by friends or relatives in a private car or taxi. A pedestrian walk can bring considerable discomfort to the patient, since due to the eyes that are partially closed during the first hours, the visibility usually worsens and the look becomes cloudy. The soreness of the area around the eyes is either not observed at all, or it is fairly mild and can be easily removed with light painkillers.

The effects of blepharoplasty that are not considered to be complications include:

  1. dry eyes;
  2. increased tearing;
  3. slight swelling ;
  4. bruises under the lower eyelids;
  5. soreness of the periorbital area;
  6. bruising (rare);
  7. double vision;
  8. blurred, blurred vision.

All the above symptoms are temporary and are observed only in the postoperative period, in the first 7-10 days. The only thing that can remain for up to two months is residual edema. The speed of its disappearance entirely depends on the individual reaction of the skin to the new location. You can speed up the removal of edema by following the recommendations in the next chapter.

How to most effectively contribute to recovery after blepharoplasty

Age recovery period Regardless of the individual response to surgery, recovery after blepharoplasty is accelerated if the patient takes the surgeon's advice into account. Ignoring the use of healing ointments, poor hygiene, constant friction, touching and stretching the seams can not only slow down the rehabilitation, but also worsen the effect of blepharoplasty: for example, cause excessive scarring.

Equally important is human health. For example, it is known that kidney disease or diabetes mellitus slows wound healing and postoperative recovery.

Key recommendations for patients undergoing blepharoplasty for effective recovery:

  • Abandon too hot baths and showers and certainly not visit the sauna during the rehabilitation period.
  • Do not expose the body to high physical stress for a month.
  • Do not remove at will a special tape designed to properly fix the fabric in a new place.
  • Don't sleep with your head down.
  • Use cold compresses on swollen places.
  • Observe the mode of use prescribed by the doctor drops or ointments.

Perform special rehabilitation exercises recommended by the surgeon: they will restore the tone to the muscles in the eye area, restore blood circulation and lymph circulation.

  • The first two or three days it is undesirable to use a PC, watch TV or read - this will aggravate dry eyes.
  • Try to blink less and not to cry.
  • Protect your eyes from sunlight (using ordinary glasses) for 6 months.
  • Rest more, do not allow the increase in intraocular pressure (when lifting weights, bending).
  • Stop drinking and smoking (extremely important).
  • Avoid spicy, salty, or acidic foods until after rehabilitation.
  • To drink a lot of water.

At the request of the patient can enroll a week or two after surgery for lifting, moisturizing procedures and lymphatic drainage massage. This will accelerate the resorption of edema. If the patient also plans to smooth out wrinkles with Botox, you must wait at least one and a half months.

Features of the rehabilitation period after blepharoplasty

The following are the highlights of the rehabilitation period after blepharoplasty by day.

Rehabilitation after blepharoplasty 1 day after surgery . You can immediately go home. It is advisable to apply a cold compress on the eyelids, which will significantly reduce swelling. If you experience pain around the eyes, you can take painkillers.

2-3 days . You can safely take a shower or not too hot bath, wash your hair. However, make sure that the shampoo does not get into your eyes. Begin to perform the prescribed exercises for the eyes And use antiseptic drops. If you want to read - do not overdo it and finish immediately when you feel that your eyes are tired.

3-5 day . If the surgeon has applied non-self- absorbable sutures , it's time to go back to the clinic to remove them. From now on, you can return to the use of contact lenses.

6 day . It is possible to refuse the antiseptic plasters imposed on eyelids.

7 day . As a rule, swelling and bruising disappear on this day, and the patient can go to work and generally return to normal life, with the exception of intense physical exercise and the use of decorative cosmetics.

10 day . The last traces of hemorrhage practically disappear. In the absence of any complications, a woman can return to the use of decorative cosmetics - preferably designed for sensitive eyes.

14 day . The seams are almost invisible.

45-50 days . The end of the rehabilitation period: the scars are imperceptible even without cosmetics, the swelling disappears completely, the effect of plastics is fully manifested. You can continue the interrupted exercise.

Full recovery after blepharoplasty

The rehabilitation period ends depending on the age and state of health, in a period from a month to two after the operation. During the first 4 weeks, the scars go through a granulation stage — a young, blood-rich tissue forms along the incision line.

By the end of the month, the pink scar is usually still noticeable, and its complete disappearance (more precisely, its transformation into the thinnest white line, which is almost on par with the skin) occurs in another month and a half. That is why you should not panic, if at a relatively young age postoperative scars are still visible after the first month.

Important

However, there are patients in whom the scar actually heals abnormally slowly. In these cases, the surgeon may advise you to revise the scar, which will eliminate the excessive growth of connective tissue.

The second major problem after blepharoplasty is edema. Their occurrence is completely normal and regular, since even such weak incisions damage the soft tissues and, therefore, destroy the small blood vessels. This leads to the accumulation of plasma and protective cells at the site of incision.

With proper follow-up of physician's advice and the absence of chronic diseases (vasculitis, diabetes mellitus, bleeding disorders), all the swelling and bruising disappear by the end of the second week. Do not be afraid if in the process of resorption the bruise changes its color or slightly increases in size - this is normal. Under the above aggravating circumstances, their disappearance can last for up to six weeks.
