How to get rid of pigmentation on the face and remove age-related changes

Facial pigmentation Content:

Pigment spots are limited areas of the epidermis containing an increased amount of a special pigment - melanin. Due to this, the skin in such places becomes dark brown.

The location of the hyperpigmentation on the face gives a lot of problems and worries for their owner, such as an unaesthetic appearance, inconvenience when putting on clothes or applying makeup.

Causes of age spots

Pigmented spots can appear at any age, but still the frequency of their occurrence is higher in the older age group (after 40 years).

The cause of the development of hyperpigmented areas on the face can be both external and internal factors.

Among the first major ones are:

  • UV exposure (sunlight, tanning bed);
  • frequent injury of the upper layers of the skin (irrational use of means to “clean” the face, severe acne, furunculosis, chemical or thermal damage);
  • the use of cosmetics that are irritating or unsuitable for this skin type;
  • taking certain medications (oral contraceptives, tetracycline antibiotics, sulfonamides, antipsychotics).

In addition, a number of internal causes can cause age spots:

  • hormonal imbalance due to gynecological and endocrine diseases, pregnancy, childbirth, lactation;
  • metabolic disorders in diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, especially the liver, gallbladder, intestines;
  • accumulation of degradation products while reducing kidney function;
  • insufficient content of vitamins and minerals (folic acid, vitamin C, PP);
  • genetic predisposition;
  • nervous system disorders, chronic stress;
  • aging processes.

Increased pigmentation of the skin can be detected in perfectly healthy people, and at the same time it can be a symptom of a disease.

Is it possible to get rid of age spots

The most common question that worries the majority of patients is how to get rid of pigmentation on the face and is it possible in principle. Today, modern science has a wide range of technologies and techniques dedicated to this problem. In some cases, it is sufficient to establish the cause and treatment of the underlying disease in order for hyperpigmentation to disappear. In others, one has to resort to additional influences to obtain a successful result.

Age spots on face

How to remove age pigmentation

The pigment spots that appear on the face with age are usually caused by exposure to ultraviolet rays and are called lentigo. They are distinguished by a gradual onset and slow progression, however, it is this type of pigmentation that is more resistant and does not change color depending on the season.

Before getting rid of pigmentation on the face at an older age , the patient should be examined for other possible causes. It is obligatory to visit a dermatologist who, with the help of a special device - a dermatoscope, will exclude the possibility of reincarnation of a pigment spot in melanoma or skin cancer. In rare cases, a skin flap biopsy is used.

Older people should avoid long stays in direct sunlight as much as possible, use sunscreen during the warm season.

If pigment spots are already present on the skin of the face, the treatment begins with the application of gentle procedures: applying a lightening cream, gel, using exfoliating scrubs and lotions. The effect of such measures occurs in approximately 2-3 months.

In more advanced cases, treatment of age spots with chemical peeling is recommended, which allows to get rid of pigmentation in several stages and to make the skin smoother.

With the ineffectiveness of all the above measures, laser skin resurfacing can help the problem. This procedure completely removes the pigmented part of the epidermis at once and requires further careful maintenance.

Face hyperpigmentation

Pigmentation on the face after childbirth

Pregnancy and childbirth - the physiological processes that cause the woman's body to completely rebuild. First of all it concerns her hormonal background. As a result of the intensive work of the adrenal glands, which produce, among other things, the melanocyte-stimulating hormone, hyperpigmentation areas appear on the body of the expectant mother, which can persist and even increase after delivery.

To reduce the severity of changes and prevent the emergence of new, a full diet with a high content of folic acid (greens, citrus, beans, liver) must be observed. Do not neglect walks in the fresh air, exercise, which helps to normalize the metabolism and eliminate congestion in the circles of blood circulation.

Among the bleaching products for the face, it is preferable to use cosmetics with natural ingredients or even prepare them yourself. It is strictly forbidden to use hydroquin-containing creams.

Pigmented spots in young mothers can disappear on their own, on average, 6-12 months after delivery.

After laser therapy, skin care, hygiene and asepsis are required. The recovery period takes one week. A prerequisite for treatment is to protect the skin from sunlight.

Phototherapy

Phototherapy (or IPL-therapy) is one of the latest techniques of hardware cosmetology, which is based on the impact of high-intensity light flux destroying pigment cells. Compared with the previous technology, this procedure does not affect the upper layers of the skin, and therefore safer and less traumatic. Within 3 days after phototherapy, a visit to the swimming pool and thermal procedures are not recommended.

ELOS

It also applies to the techniques of hardware removal of pigment spots using light and bipolar current. The main difference is the effect on the deep layers of the dermis, heating of melanocytes and their destruction. Adverse effects after manipulation is not observed. In severe cases, multiple sessions may be required. The procedure is painless, hyperpigmentation disappears forever.

Chemical peel

Chemical peeling is carried out by applying to the affected areas a special chemical composition. Glycolic acid (alpha hydroxy acid), phenol, trichloroacetic acid and fruit acids can be represented as components of this composition. The procedure can be superficial and deep. In addition, the method has some drawbacks: it is carried out only in the autumn-winter period, several stages are necessary, perhaps pronounced irritation and redness of the face. However, chemical peeling is quite an effective technique.

Cosmetic procedures

Cosmetic manipulations include various masks, cosmetics for care, pharmacological preparations (hydrogen peroxide, salicylic acid, bodyaga, zinc ointment, cream with mercury). Retin-A preparations, Akhromin MAX, VC-IP solution have a curative effect .

Salon treatments

In the salons, the cosmetologist, in addition to the methods described above, can suggest the following manipulations:

  • oxygen stimulating procedures;
  • ultrasound and mechanical (dermabrasion) peeling;
