Artificial skin prosthesis Johns Hopkins University has developed a prosthetic brush with an electronic prototype of human skin, according to the portal actualnews.org . The artificial skin of the e-dermis is equipped with nerve sensors that collect information about touch and transmit to the brain by stimulating the peripheral nerves of living tissues. Thanks to this prosthesis, a person can again feel a lost limb.

The skin has an extensive network of nerve endings and receptors that transmit information to the brain. Even if a person has a limb amputated, he can still feel it in the form of phantom sensations. This feature of sensory perception formed the basis of this development of scientists.

The new skin is able to transmit impulses to the brain from mechanical action on the prosthesis. A person can feel both a light touch and a strong squeeze. According to the volunteer, who passed the test of the novelty, the physical sensations are perceived the same way as with a real limb.

At present, only the hand has been created, and this, according to scientists, is only the beginning. While the artificial limb is able to transmit only a small range of sensations, but research in this direction continues. According to experts, in the future, a damaged prosthesis will be able to inform a person of pain sensations.
